Healing Hearts and Saving Lives: A Day of Care in Nakivale.

On August 2, 2025, something truly special happened at Rubondo Health Centre II in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Isingiro District, Uganda. A massive medical camp, put together by the Rotaract Clubs of Mbarara and Nakivale, Rubondo, along with C-Care Medical Services, brought hope and health to 476 people, 177 men and 299 women. This wasn’t just a day of doctor visits; it was a powerful moment of care and kindness for a community that often struggles to get medical help.

The camp was like a one-stop shop for health needs. People got free checkups, kids’ health care, eye tests, lab tests, and even counseling to lift their spirits. Women were screened for cervical cancer, and everyone received free medicines, eyeglasses, condoms, sanitary pads, and even clothes and shoes donated by kind-hearted people. Doctors, nurses, eye specialists and lab experts from C-Care worked hard to treat common problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, stomach issues, malaria, coughs, colds, and urinary infections. Those with serious conditions were sent to bigger hospitals for extra care.

The lab team helped 164 people with tests to catch problems early. Out of 100 people checked for blood sugar, five had high levels, with one 57-year-old man showing a worrying 16.1 mmol/L.
HIV tests were done for 41 people and two women aged 20 and 48, tested positive and got immediate support. Malaria tests for 36 people found one 56-year-old woman positive.
Tests for prostate issues, stomach bacteria, and hepatitis B all came back clear.
For cervical cancer, 30 women were screened—four had early signs of trouble and were treated right away, while one with advanced cancer and another already in treatment were guided on next steps. One woman was treated for an infection, and all serious cases were sent to specialists.

The camp also gave special care to pregnant women and those needing family planning. They got breast exams, infection checks, and advice on staying healthy. The cervical cancer screening for 30 women was a big deal, catching problems early and making sure those affected got the right care or referrals to keep fighting.

This day wasn’t just about medicine, it was about building a stronger community. Five new members joined the Rotaract Club of Nakivale, Rubondo, growing the team that makes these events happen. The camp also kicked off the 2025 Rotary Cancer Run, spreading the word about fighting cancer. None of this would have been possible without the big hearts behind it. The Rotary Club of Mbarara gave money, including 300,000 Ugandan Shillings to Rotaract Club of Nakivale, Rubondo and 50,000 Ugandan Shillings for fuel to Rotaract Club of Mbarara. Rotarians Tinka, Praise, Jackie Wamahoro, and Paul Kirogoya donated and helped out on the ground.
Rotaract Club of Mbarara brought tons of medicines, making sure everyone got what they needed.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who made this day shine. The Rotaract Clubs of Nakivale, Rubondo and Mbarara worked together like a family, while C-Care’s doctors and nurses brought their skills and care. The Isingiro District Local Government, Rubondo Health Centre II staff, security teams, and local community all pitched in to make everything run smoothly.

This medical camp was more than a health check, it was a day of love, hope and togetherness for Nakivale Refugee Settlement. By helping 476 people with medical care and supplies, it showed what’s possible when people come together. The Rotary Club of Mbarara and its partners are ready to keep this spirit alive, bringing health and happiness to those who need it most. Want to help or join the next big event?
